Criticism[edit]

I've been hearing some criticisms of this game as of late. I'm still looking for sources to back it up, but I've heard some feel this game is just a way to make the Heritage Classic look bad. I'm not expecting it to get in, even if I find sources, but I'll make an attempt anyhow. Killswitch Engage (talk) 10:24, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All of these outdoor games go through phases, first its all excitement and then when its announced people pick at it. But I can't see how or why it would be a way to make the heritage classic look bad.-Djsasso (talk) 13:55, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why then, has there not been a game in Canada? Why did the NHL jump all over this game, but they refused to do anything with the Heritage Classic? I'm still hunting, the Edmonton Sun doesn't keep an archive, so it's harder to find the stuff I was looking for than I thought it would be. Killswitch Engage (talk) 15:38, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Quite simple the weather in Edmonton in November was lower than -40, imagine how cold it would be in January. The weather in Buffalo and Chicago is alot warmer. Secondly there are very few stadiums in Canada big enough to host it that are truely outdoor stadiums. Vancouver doesn't have one at all. Calgary's is too small, Toronto's is big enough but I don't know if they would call that outdoor, Montreal's is said to be too small as well. -Djsasso (talk) 16:30, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Quite simply, Americans don't want to watch two Canadian teams go at it. Bettman wants the American audience. Look at the teams: Detroit has the largest fan base for American teams (look at the ratings they brought in for the playoffs) and Chicago, a great young team in a huge sports market, where the organization is starting to clean up its act. Bettman doesn't want Canadian teams, he doesn't even want small Americans teams. The Blue Jackets, Thrashers, Islanders, Ducks...etc will never play in these games. For viewership, teams like the Red Wings, Avalanche, Rangers, Blackhawks, Wild, Sabres and Bruins will participate in these games. Look at the next one, probably New York vs. Boston. The one after that? Maybe Colorado vs. Minnesota? It's all about money. NBC doesn't want to see the Flames play the Senators, it's that simple.Ezc 195 (talk)
And Canadians don't want to see two American teams go at it. It's that simple. It being Montreals 100th year, they should have gotten it. No one in Canada gives a shit about a shitty team in Chicago and a clasless team in Detroit. They want to see teams that uphold the tradition of the sport. Gary Bettman needs to be fired before the league goes under. Killswitch Engage (talk) 16:12, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey guys, this isn't a message board. See: "4. Discussion forums" under "Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought" on WP:NOT. Try to keep the talk relevant to the improvement of the article. Argument about important TV markets or Gary Bettman's job aren't an important matter here. JohnnyPolo24 (talk) 17:53, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sweaters[edit]

What is the source for the 1955-56 sweaters?.-StopItRightThere

This article includes pictures of both jerseys, though I am unsure if the 1955 year is correct. blackngold29 18:17, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"NHL Winter Classic" page[edit]

Hey everyone. I was thinking that a NHL Winter Classic page should be started for the event as a whole. Within it there could be general information about the event and could have a chart or list that links to each past and current specific game. Does anyone want to start this? I could put together the table for it. JohnnyPolo24 (talk) 13:52, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With it only happening twice, or three times if you count the Heritage Classic. I don't know that we are really at the point of needing a separate article for it. It would mostly just be a duplicate of info. That being said we do need atleast a disambig type page or list type page. So might as well through some information on that page like you suggest. -Djsasso (talk) 14:45, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have already created a disambiguation page at NHL Winter Classic for these two games. It could be expanded upon later if necessary. -- bmitchelfTF 15:36, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Page title[edit]

Should anything be changes as far as the page title goes (or at the very least, redirects created to this location)? See here for further info — Bridgestone is the official title sponsor and the event is referred to as the "Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic 2009" quite a few times on that article. - Rjd0060 (talk) 04:53, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I already created a redirect in that manner to this page. But perhaps there are other redirect versions you can think of. -Djsasso (talk) 13:50, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, that was the main one. Just wasn't sure if we should just redirect it here or move this page. Thanks. Rjd0060 (talk) 19:52, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
