Player Statistics Section[edit]

I've been thinking about the player statistics section of the page, ultimately I think they way it was done last season (and the way the page has been changed to this season) is very long and doesn't add much value to the page by breaking down the stats by league, each cup and friendlies.

I've edited it to a single table (which doesn't differentiate appearances, cards etc by competition) for the moment, mainly so I could get some discussion going and a consensus on the matter. We could do it to include columns for different competitions. Or we could do a disciplinary table which broke down cards by competition (similar to the scorers table). Any thoughts? I think there's value in breaking it down into the different competitions. Sure, it's quite long, but it makes it easier to distinguish appearances by competition. With bookings being applicable to different competitions, for example, there is merit in at least a disciplinary table. But further to that, since official player statistics only count league appearances, it needs to be easy to distinguish between competitions. For example, Tuffey played in every league match last season, but was omitted from some of the cup games. Partickfan (talk) 08:32, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Further to this, if we are to record data from the open door friendly fixtures, there also needs to be distinction between competitive and non-competitive games. I think the old style is preferable. Partickfan (talk) 14:45, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, taking that on board, how about combining the stats from each competition? I've done an example table:

So far I've tried to make the apps, goals etc columns be sortable but I haven't managed it yet. Even if we don't have the sortable feature I think this option looks far better than three separate tables (four if including friendlies). Thoughts? Neiljbradley (talk) 15:37, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
