Images for Each Storm[edit]

Another one down. Hurricanehink 22:26, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Work finished, also added 1985 season buttons template juan andrés 01:32, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good job. This is one of those seasons where a button bar is a good idea, due to the fact there are 4 seasonal articles. Hurricanehink 01:34, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I found some images for the Pacific season, 2005 in a NOAA site. Can I upload them? juan andrés 02:07, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can't hurt. As long as it is in the public domain, you can put them either in the talk page or on the main article. Hurricanehink 02:53, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Here is the link [1]

Elena[edit]

How much damage did Elene do? The intro and the storms section give two different numbers. And there is no reference so the information is not verifiable. — jdorje (talk) 05:37, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gloria[edit]

The Gloria bit is wrong I think, however sources for this might be conflicting; this one might have been changed during the re-analysis and modern numbers seem inconsistent. For instance the best-track reports that Gloria crossed Cape Hatteras as a Category 2 hurricane, but marks it down as an NC3 and NY3 (category 3 winds in NC and NY). The NHC FAQ says gloria made landfall as a Cat3 with 942 mbar pressure (that would be at Cape Hatteras). This article doesn't even mention a hatteras landfall. — jdorje (talk) 05:55, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Weak article[edit]

Of the season articles, 1950-1985, this one has the most factual problems. Someone needs to give this article some attention. — jdorje (talk) 06:07, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The writing in this article was also particularly poor. I'd say the whole thing should be checked. — jdorje (talk) 06:09, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tropical Depression 13 in December?[edit]

I heard TD-13 formed on December 7 in the Caribbean. GIBBS backs me up, but I can't find a resource so we can't put it in the article. It definatley deserves a mention. Cyclone1(00:29-23-07-2007)

Here's some TD info for 1985. It's for information use only and meant to be an aid to your search for information. Happy hunting. Thegreatdr (talk) 20:17, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll insert these two sections into the article. Hopefully someone with access to news wire archives can finish the research.Potapych (talk) 20:52, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Record US landfalls[edit]

What counts as a landfall? If you only count the number of storms that actually came ashore, this season is tied for first with 2004 (excluding Alex; with Alex included, 2004 is the record holder with 9). '05s Ophelia did not come ashore, but is counted as a landfall because the eyewall crossed the coast. Without her, 2005 isn't even tied; only seven others made landfall in the US (Arlene, Cindy, Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Tammy, and Wilma). 2004, minus Alex, had Bonnie, Charley, Frances, Gaston, Hermine, Ivan, Jeanne and Matthew. Surprisingly, 2002 had 8 as well (Bertha, Edouard, Fay, Gustav, Hanna, Isidore, Kyle and Lili). However, of those, Lili was the only hurricane. Going arcaeic, other seasons jump in the mix. 1933 had 8 if you include Storm 18, which undoubtedly brought hurricane force winds to the Florida Keys. 1916 also had 8. That season also matched the seemingly unbeatable record of 6 hurricane landfalls. With that many tied with 8, I'm not sure how notable the fact is. Only 2004's 9 stands above the crowd. -- §HurricaneERICarchive 00:24, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in 1985 Atlantic hurricane season[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of 1985 Atlantic hurricane season's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "hpc":

  • From Hurricane Elena: David M. Roth. "Hurricane Elena - August 28-September 6, 1985". Weather Prediction Center. Retrieved February 2, 2013.
  • From 1980 Atlantic hurricane season: David M. Roth (May 16, 2007). "Tropical Storm Danielle — September 4–11, 1980". Hydrometeorological Prediction Center. Retrieved March 1, 2012.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 21:49, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
