Renaming discussion[edit]

I think the current article name is bad and unclear. The name clearly tells us it's a station bombing when it's not - it was just outside it. To be fair, it's difficult to choose a different name, so I want to get people's opinions about this. Calling it 'Green Park' bombing also sounds wrong as it would imply it happened within that large park area. I'm not sure if 'Piccadilly' bombing sounds okay, but these sources https://www.nytimes.com/1975/10/10/archives/one-killed-and-18-hurt-in-piccadilly-bombing.html https://api.parliament.uk/historic-hansard/written-answers/1993/mar/04/prevention-of-terrorism-legislation and http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/october/9/newsid_2531000/2531191.stm call it 'Piccadilly', so perhaps that is a more accepted/'official' name. What do you all think? --Gateshead001 (talk) 23:57, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'd agree that this wasn't really a tube station bombing, more like a bus stop bombing, and that Green Park would be misleading even though it's just over the road. Piccadilly has been bombed multiple times, so we'd have to prepend the year. So I'd be happy to go for 1975 Piccadilly bombing, per the quoted news sources. I think there was only one in that year. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:06, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Still an attack on the station and tube users In ictu oculi (talk) 10:07, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Green Park tube station bombing → ? – As per argument above. I am thinking that 1975 Piccadilly bombing would be a perfect new name, especially as the sources (in section above) call it 'Piccadilly'. Gateshead001 (talk) 23:56, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose sorry, think it was an attack on a tube In ictu oculi (talk) 07:03, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak support for now, because the sources represented seem to lean this way. Could be swayed by additional sourcing that indicated that use of "Picadilly" in reference to this are not actually common.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  02:24, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - "Green Park tube station bombing" sounds like it obviously happened at or in the tube station ..... So I feel like the title is misleading (It happened outside but that's no different from there being a bombing outside Marks and Spencer - You'd use the overall location...) so support 1975 Piccadilly bombing. –Davey2010Talk 14:18, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Seems like a reasonable descriptive title reflecting the sources.--Cúchullain t/c 15:21, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support, per my comments in the section above. -- zzuuzz (talk) 15:28, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Off-topic: @In ictu oculi: @SMcCandlish: @Davey2010: @Cuchullain: @Zzuuzz: There is a merge request of an article related to this one, and would love to get your views on that too - Talk:1974 London pillar box bombings. --Gateshead001 (talk) 23:49, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think a merge could make sense.--Cúchullain t/c 17:20, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
