Multiple censuses, rather than just the one[edit]

It is my understanding that while there was one common census day, that the reality is that it is multiple censuses — England and Wales; Scotland; Channel Islands; and Ireland. Well at least prior to 1920 when that year's Census Act came into being. My understanding is that the forms and instructions are different.
