History[edit]

There is a lot of 17th Cavalry Regiment history from Vietnam as well as other operations, it is just a matter of placing appropriate notable events to improve the article. I will as I can. --Born2flie 07:00, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alliances[edit]

User:Hammersfan added a section on alliances. First, the description of the relationship as an alliance is misleading. The relationship is more informal and much less diplomatic than alliance implies. Second, Hammersfan did not include any sources. While I'm aware of the relationship between the two units, the use of the word alliance and the lack of information on the extent of the relationship make its notability tenuous as it pertains to inclusion in this article. --Born2flie (talk) 11:16, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Iraq and Afghanistan[edit]

What to cover for Iraq and Afghanistan experience? Just cover movements of squadrons to and from theater, areas of operation? What does anyone have as recommendations for the criteria used to determine which significant events should be included, especially during the timeframe between the tour and the production of adequate sources about operations once they have been completed and cleared for release.

For instance, I'm personally aware of sources for the 4 September 2004 shootdown of a 3rd Squadron aircraft over Tal Afar, Iraq, which turned into a significant battle for a battalion of the first Stryker brigade to see combat. There is also the shootdown of another 3rd Squadron aircraft that made national news because the pilots were eventually evacuated by an AH-64D from 1st Cavalry Division. Unfortunately, most of the released information available from the Center of Military History and news sources only involves aircraft being shot down.

Sadly, until more sources become available, it seems that such a section will only involve shootdowns and crashes. --Born2flie (talk) 04:22, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
