Fair use rationale for Image:10ccalbum.jpg[edit]

Image:10ccalbum.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Four singles, or five?[edit]

Amazingly, this article still had a glaring inaccuracy, even after all this time. In the info panel, the list of singles quite rightly, and accurately, contains a total of FIVE. However, in comparing the number of Top 10 singles with those not making that grade, the article quoted "three of the four singles". This is plainly at odds, and the obvious thing to do was to alter one of the elements to reflect consistency and accuracy. The accurate number to use, as mentioned, would be "five", and so I have altered the quote to read "three of the five singles". Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 13:29, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Embarking On Fixing the 10Cc Redlink Problem in the Chronology Section Headings[edit]

I'm about to embark on fixing the redlinks in the 10cc album infobox chronology section headings. Currently, all 10cc infobox chronology section headings have a redlink for the artist name.

The chronology name is determined by the "artist" parameter by default, so one would expect it to be "10cc". However, the Wikipedia code appears to apply case capitalization rules to the artist parameter when generating the chronology section header. In this case, the "cc" in "10cc" is capitalized resulting in "10Cc", i.e., an uppercase "C" followed by a lowercase "c". The case change ends up looking for an article that doesn't exist, i.e., 10Cc, thus a redlink.

The result is an ugly redlink of an artist with ugly capitalization and a useless link - for every 10cc album.

If the album infobox template didn't perform this automatic capitalization of the artist parameter, the redlinks would not appear and users could click on the artist name in the chronology section header to go to the article for the artist as usual. In the case of "10cc", clicking on the (red)link goes to a page requesting creating a "10Cc" article (which would be very messy should a user create such a link differing in case only).

Experimenting with the album infobox parameters, it appears that there is no convenient way to override the automatic capitalization of the artist used in the chronology section header.

From what I see, the only way to fix the redlinks is to explicitly set the "chronology" parameter to "10cc", i.e., the same as the "artist" parameter. This is not pretty, but fixing this in code would require solutions like 'deriving' artist-specific infoboxes that could override capitalization rules (which is actually pretty nice from a software design point of view, but could legitimately freak out users). Adding new parameters like "useRawArtistForChronologyHeader" is very messy for almost all users and would need to be set for all infobox instances for artists that require it which is no less effort than explicitly specifying a "chronology" parameter.

So, I'm embarking on explicitly setting the chronology album infobox parameter for all 10cc albums to get around the "10Cc" redlinks. This is not pretty but is much better than having the unnecessary redlinks with the ugly "10Cc" capitalization.

I look forward to the day when all my changes are wiped out as there is a better way to handle this issue. Til then, hard coding the "chronology" parameter appears to be the best way to handle this problem.

So, for now, explicitly setting "chronology" to "10cc" for all albums seems to be the way to go.

Lead Vocals[edit]

I'm a big personnel nerd, and I'd really like to figure out who's singing what on this record, and impart that to others. The vocal credits are there for the other three albums from their "classic period". Here's what I've got –– I've been able to determine most of these so far, but a few I've had to go by ear. Asterisks indicate some sort of visual proof, usually clips from this period.

  1. Johnny Don't Do It - Creme with Godley (it might be Gouldman on the bridge?)
  2. Sand In My Face - Godley*
  3. Donna - Creme with Godley
  4. The Dean and I - Creme with Godley*
  5. Headline Hustler - Gouldman* (Maybe Stewart in unison, unsure of this)
  6. Speed Kills - Group
  7. Rubber Bullets - Creme with Godley*
  8. The Hospital Song - Creme (No visuals, never performed live it seems, but the tone matches)
  9. Ships Don't Disappear (Do They?) - Stewart (A bootleg from 75 indicates this)
  10. Fresh Air For Momma - Godley*

Any fellow liner note dorks out there, let's get this figured out. This is also my first contribution to a discussion page ever! That's how obsessed I've been with 10cc recently. Great band. Cheers!
