Mohammadreza Goodary (Persian: محمدرضا گودری; born December 14, 1988, in Narmak, Tehran[1]) professionally known as Reza Goodary (Persian: رضا گودری) is an Iranian martial artist and combat sport photojournalist.[2][3]

He is the first Iranian fighter in the six disciplines are Karate, Muay Thai, Grappling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Bare-knuckle boxing and mixed martial arts with recorded 299 professional fights.[4][5]

Early life[edit]

Goodary was born in Tehran and spent his childhood in the Narmak area.[6] In 1995, he started martial arts by Judo at age 7.[7] Next, he began learning traditional Chinese martial arts.[8][9] Because of his interest in a practical method of combat, he focused on Full contact karate under Hamid Soltani’s supervision.[10]

As required by Iranian law, Goodary completed his military service training in the 58th Takavar Division of Shahroud, and after that he was transferred to the Islamic Republic of Iran Army Ground Forces sport department.[11]

After winning 20 Iranian national titles in full contact karate, Goodary became interested in other martial arts as well.[12] In February 2016, when his coach immigrated to Germany, he decided move to Southeast Asia.[13]

Martial arts career[edit]

Full contact karate[edit]

In 2016, Goodary won the 3rd place at the full contact karate International Championships in Pattaya and was ranked among the top eight in the world Byakuren Kaikan cup in Osaka.[14] In 2017 and 2018, he won gold medal in the All Japan championship in Okinawa.[15]

Yongmudo[edit]

In 2016 and 2019, Goodary won bronze medals in the World Martial Arts Masterships in Cheongju[16][17] and won a silver medal at the international Yongmudo tournaments in Yongin.[18]

Muay Thai[edit]

In 2016, Goodary studied Muay Thai under the auspices of Sakmongkol Sithchuchok.[19] Between 2018 and 2020, he participated in eight professional Muay Thai fights in Thailand.[20] On April 22, 2018, he faced UFC fighter Phil Hawes in Max Muay Thai.[21]

Brazilian jiu-jitsu[edit]

In 2019, Goodary started practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Celso Rolim Junior supervision at the Fairtex Gym.[22] He was able to receive the blue belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu from De'Alonzio Jackson's hands.[23][24] Goodary has fought for the Siam Cup BJJ & COPA de Bangkok medals.[25][26] In 2019 and 2020, he successfully won 7 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals.[27]

Mixed martial arts[edit]

On April 30, 2022, Goodary made his first mixed martial arts debut against Jean Carlos Pereira at The Fairtex Fight Promotion:The Battle of Dragons event and loss by split decision.[28]

Bare-knuckle boxing[edit]

On December 18, 2021, at the BKFC Thailand 1: The Game Changer, Goodary loss the fight against Sirimongkol Singmanasak, Thailand's most honored boxing champion, by split decision.[29]

Photojournalist career[edit]

In July 6, 2022, Goodry founded Photo Eminency Company with the main purpose of journalism and photography in the field of combat sports. In the same year he won International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) best photographer award.[30] In 2023 Goodary has been top 10 of International Sports Press Association (AIPS) awards.[31]
