Harishankar Das is a Bangladeshi ophthalmologist.[1] He was awarded the Independence Award, the highest civilian award in Bangladesh, for his contribution in medical science in 2024.[2]

Early life[edit]

Das was born at Nikla village under Bhuapur upazila of Tangail. He completed MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College in 1974.[3] He then earned his post graduation degree from Vienna, Austria.[3] He worked at the eye department of Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital as Clinical Assistant, Registrar and Resident Surgeon.[3] He worked as chief surgeon conducted by Bangladesh National Society for the Blind (BNSB).[3]
