Purpose of use

This recording is an example of how Stafford interpreted a popular song of the era (pre-rock 1950s). The sample presents a section from the beginning of the song, in which Stafford sings the lyrics of how she is telling her lover that whatever exotic locales and sights he may experience, "You belong to me". Words alone are not adequate enough to describe her performance of this song, which shows how, as music critic Terry Teachout described her, Stafford's singing is "rhythmically fluid without ever sounding self-consciously 'jazzy'".
