Nederlands: Paus Gregorius knielt voor het altaar. Christus staat in een sarcofaag achter het altaar. Het bloed uit zijn zijdewond stroomt in de kelk op de altaartafel en besprenkelt ook het naaktfiguurtje in het vagevuur naast het altaar. Tegen de achterwand en op de tafel zijn passiewerktuigen afgebeeld en figuren die bij Christus’ lijden betrokken waren. Rechts bevinden zich de drie andere westerse kerkvaders, evenals Gregorius voorzien van een aureool: Ambrosius met staf en geselroede, Hieronymus met leeuw, Augustinus met in zijn handen een hart. Op de voorgrond links de stichter. |
