Fair use rationale for Enter Sandman[edit]
This is a sound sample from a commercial recording. Its inclusion in these articles is claimed as fair use because:
- There is already a sample of the song in File:EnterSandman.ogg that includes this riff as it ended on the record, so the inclusion of this sample in the article serves not to show an additional bit of music but to explain the evolution of the song
- This excerpt is very important because this is the way Kirk Hammett originally wrote the main riff of the song. The difference between the original riff and the way it ended on the record is that the one the record repeats the first part twice. It was from this very riff that the rest of the song evolved and "Enter Sandman" is as Lars Ulrich has said, a one-riff song.
- This sample illustrates an educational article that specifically discusses the song from which this sample was taken.
- It is a short sample from a much longer recording, and could not be used as a substitute for the original commercial recording.
- It is not replaceable with an uncopyrighted or freely copyrighted sample of comparable educational value.
- It is believed that this sample will not affect the value of the original work or limit the copyright holder's rights or ability to distribute the original recording.
I believe that this use of the excerpt is in good faith, and that its inclusion enhances rather than reduces the commercial value of the recording from which it was drawn. Serte [ Talk · Contrib ] 17:53, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
