Description

These recordings are from Pan105, titled "Incomplete and Controversial Sonatas."

Unfortunately, the master tapes are lost. The recordings were copied from an lp.

Apart from the A major Sonata, many authorities are not convinced that the remaining sonatas are the work of the master.

The A major Sonata has an incomplete 1st movement. Alex Murray compares it to the 5th Brandenburg concerto, and suggests that a flute cadenza, like the long harpsichord cadenza in the 5th Brandenburg, could have originally been a part of the manuscript. Accordingly, Martha Goldstein wrote a completion with this aim.

The flute used is a copy of an instrument by W. Beukers which was made in the late 1700's. The maker is K Kinoshita of Japan.
