Vitaliy Gurman (born August 4, 1998)[1] is an American football offensive tackle for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Edinboro and Toledo.
High school career[edit]
As a senior offensive lineman, Vitaliy Gurman earned second-team All-State honors from the New York Sportswriters Association. He distinguished himself further by being selected as a first-team All-Greater Rochester and All-County player. Additionally, in 2015, he demonstrated leadership as the team captain. Gurman's academic achievements were also recognized, as he was honored as a 2015 NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete. Throughout his high school tenure, he amassed a total of 11 letters, excelling in football with four, track & field with three, and wrestling and indoor track with two each.[2][3]
College career[edit]
Gurman, initially not heavily recruited out of high school, opted for Division 2 Edinboro, where he redshirted during the 2016 season.
Throughout 2017 and 2018, Gurman showcased remarkable consistency, missing only one start at center before transitioning to left tackle in 2019, where he continued to excel, accumulating a total of 32 starts.
In 2020, Gurman made a significant move to Toledo, where despite the challenges of a Covid-shortened season, he started in all six games at left tackle. The following year, 2021, he began the season at left guard before seamlessly transitioning back to left tackle for the latter half of the season.[4]
Professional career[edit]
After going undrafted Gurman was among the 40 athletes who participated in Kansas City's rookie minicamp. Later, he also attended the Pittsburgh Steelers' rookie minicamp. However, his performance didn't meet the standards required for Pittsburgh to offer him a spot on their roster after the three-day event.[5]
Kansas City Chiefs[edit]
In May 2022 Gurman was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs.[6] He was waived as a part of final roster cuts in August 2022.[7]
Las Vegas Raiders[edit]
In September 2022, Gurman was signed by the Las Vegas Raiders.[8] A year later in September 2023 he was released.[9]
Arizona Cardinals[edit]
In October 2023, Gurman was signed by the Arizona Cardinals to their practice squad.[10] He was released from the practice squad in November.[11]
New York Jets[edit]
In January 2024, the New York Jets signed Gurman to their practice squad.[12]
Personal life[edit]
Gurman is the son of Miroslava and Ivan Gurman, he has two brothers named Milon and Ivan.[2]
