Early Life & Music Introductions[edit]
Vayda's dad was a part of a hip-hop group, which introduced her to the art form. Other than hip-hop, she listened to jazz growing up. She names Thelonius Monk and Herbie Hancock as two musicians that shaped her musical philosophy.[1]
Vayda grew up playing the piano. She said she was self-taught; "I was just playing by ear. My dad would always play music, so I would just pick out certain notes, pick out certain stuff, and just figure it out."[2]
“I always knew I wanted to do music because of how listening to music will make me feel good. So from a very young age I was writing raps and making up dances,” she told BET during a recent interview.[3]
Music[edit]
According to an interview with No Bells, Vayda "initially started raising the BPM of her tracks to compensate for limited studio gear and poor recording quality."[4]
On the first time she started rapping: "Yeah, it was after COVID for real. I cut off all my friends and I was really bored in the room. So I was like, I’m just gonna buy me a USB mic and start fuckin’ around. At first, I started singing and stuff. I would post the songs—some of them are privated, some of them are still out—but I started singing, and then I started rapping. And then, I don’t know, that just kind of took off, so I was just like, “ok, let me just get to rapping.”" [5]
Vayda's song "jenner" is on Pitchfork's The 42 Best Rap Songs of 2023 list.[6]
