History[edit]
Before 2012, both Saivapragasa Primary and Saivapragasa Ladies School were under the same name, Saivapragasa Ladies School, offering classes from 1 to 13. Grades 1-5 were taught in Tamil, and grades 6-11 were bilingual in both Tamil and English. Grades 12-13 were taught in Tamil, which was the primary language of instruction in the school.
Following the Sri Lankan government's initiative to promote schools under the title of model schools for improved education, the two schools underwent a division. The high school received government-funded infrastructure, including the Mahindodaya building. After the division, the primary school retained 200 students in total. Mrs. Nanthapalan, the Deputy Principal in charge of the primary school, was appointed as the principal by the Zonal Director of Vavuniya South Zone Education Department.[2] Subsequently, the primary school faced a decline in student enrollment, likely due to a lack of awareness regarding the changes. Many female students opted for Rambaikulam Girls MMV. However, after 2014, there was a gradual increase in student enrollment. On July 3rd, 2015, Mrs. Thiyagasothy Yuvarajah assumed the role of principal. Under her leadership, the school acquired additional buildings, a playground for children, restroom facilities for teachers and students, a canteen, and various other amenities, including enhanced security measures and security cameras.
During her tenure, the school excelled in education, with students earning accolades at the zonal, provincial, and national levels, including the Sithambara Maths competition. Mrs. Thiyagasothy Yuvarajah retired on December 31, 2022. Mrs. Suguna Pathmanathan, a teacher, took on the role of acting principal until the appointment of the new principal, Miss Karthiga, in May 2023.
