On December 29 1963, 35 KKO (Marine Commando Corps) or what is now called the Marine Corps stormed the Kalabakan headquarters. In this attack, 8 RMR soldiers died and 19 others were injured. However, there were no casualties on the KKO side. The Sabah Rangers members who were at the post did not expect an invasion at all. It could be that they thought it was impossible for Indonesian troops to enter Kalabakan, which is located far away in Sabah.
