Quote This Woman+ is a non-profit organisation and online platform promoting gender equity. It does this by building a database of women+ experts who are happy to be quoted in the media. Journalists are then lobbied to access the database and contact these experts.[1]

History and Mission

Quote This Woman was founded in 2018 by Kath Magrobi.

Currently in South Africa women are quoted as experts by media around 20% of the time. This declined to around 16% by the 2021 elections in South Africa according to Media Monitoring Africa[2], despite 55% of voters being women.

Activities and Initiatives

The organization operates primarily through its online platform, www.quotethiswoman.org.za, which serves as a database of women experts across a wide range of fields including academia, science, business, arts, politics, and more. This platform allows journalists and event planners to easily search for women experts by topic, location, and expertise, making it simpler to diversify their sources and panels.

Key Features

  • Expert Database: Quote This Woman's website features a database of women experts who have voluntarily registered to be part of the initiative. Experts provide details about their areas of expertise, professional accomplishments, and contact information.[3]
  • Advocacy and Awareness: Quote This Woman actively advocates for gender equality and the importance of diverse representation in media and public speaking events.[4] The organisation conducts awareness campaigns, workshops, and collaborations to highlight the significance of amplifying women's voices.
