Maurice Edington has been president of the University of the District of Columbia since August 2023.[1]

Early Life[edit]

Because his mother and father struggled with substance abuse, Edington was raised by his grandparents and grew up in both Berkeley and Oakland, California.[2] Edington grew up with a passion for learning and at early age spent countless hours at the local library.[2]

Career[edit]

Education[edit]

Edington did a B.A. in chemistry at Fisk University and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry at Vanderbilt University.[3] He did postdoctoral work at Duke University, on a fellowship from the National Institutes of Health. He specializes in ultrafast laser spectroscopy.[4]
