Early life

Born on February 10, 1990, AP is a graduate of Diocesan Boys' School, Kimball Union Academy, and Lesley University in Boston, USA, with a degree in textile retail from Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014, AP's educational journey laid the foundation for his remarkable career. His university years were marked by active participation in both on-campus and off-campus singing competitions, including performances with The Show Choir during concerts by renowned artists like Eason Chan and Sally Yeh at the iconic Hung Hom Coliseum.

Career

In 2016, AP officially launched his singing career, partnering with esteemed lyricists Albert Leung （Lin Xi）and Chan Fai-Young on his debut single, "法西斯情人" Simultaneously, he stepped into the world of acting with his debut TV series, Netflix "反黑 OCTB" where he portrayed the memorable character "Teddy." Despite an unexpected leg injury in 2017, AP turned adversity into opportunity, collaborating with Chet Lam during his recovery period to create the uplifting hit "我是病人" His resilience and talent earned him the eighth-grade diploma in vocal performance from Rock School the same year, as well as performing alongside Sun Nam and Janice Vidal at the Guangdong TV station countdown show.

The year 2018 marked a significant turning point for AP as he joined a new company. Embracing a fresh musical style, AP performed for the Wenzhou Fun Music Festival as well as taking part in the Green Peace recording of the song "燕尾蝶 Swallowtail Butterfly". In 2021, AP joyfully announced on Instagram that his wife, Vivien, gave birth to two heathy twin boys named Mason (rhyming with his father's name) and Julien (rhyming with his mother's name).

During the same year, AP collaborated with Chan Kiu-wai to pen the new song "罪人勿語". Teaming up with lyricist T-Rexx and musician JNYBeatz, they enlisted the talented mixed-race actor MJ Kwong, co-star of the film "Keep Rolling," to feature in the music video. Directed by Seanie P from Bakerie, the video gained additional attention, prompting a name change for AP's chinese name to "潘宇謙" due to frequent mispronunciations.

In 2021, AP began working post-production, producing the music video for JNYBeatz and 193 Dennis Kwok's song "你是我的BAE". In December 2021, AP unveiled his second Mandarin single, "Turn Up," a collaborative effort with JNYBeatz, AP, and Sam Lee, and with lyrics by AP, narrating the transitions between the OG and YG eras and the experiences each faced after entering the industry. On March 7, 2022, AP unveiled his first Cantonese pop song, "我道" following the establishment of his own label, Approved Music. Co-composed with his friend Ian Chan from the group Mirror, and JNYBeatz, the lyrics were skillfully penned by lyricist Jim Chan. The song garnered an impressive 500,000+ views, marking AP's appearance on YouTube's "TRENDING FOR MUSIC."

Additionally, it achieved chart-topping success, securing the first position on KKBOX R&B and Soul Singles Weekly Charts, as well as the overall New Song Charts. Notably, it reached the second spot on RTHK Radio's Chinese Song Chart and secured the tenth position on Metro Radio's Music Chart.

In July 2022, AP contributed to the creation of "This Is How We Roll" for P1X3L featuring Jace Chan, which went on to become the champion song in the Chill Club Music Charts. This achievement highlighted AP's ongoing impact and versatility in the music industry.

On July 22, 2022, AP released the heartfelt song "Amelia," named after his late niece. Personally composed by AP, with lyrics by T-Rexx and arrangement and production by Gareth Chan, the music video achieved over 200,000 views within two weeks. It swiftly climbed the charts, securing the third position on the RTHK Music Charts, fifth spot on Metro Radio Music Charts, and claimed champion on KKBOX R&B and Soul Singles Weekly Charts. Additionally, it secured the second position on the overall New Songs Immediate Charts.

Moving to September 9, 2022, AP, alongside his good friend JNYBeatz, created a brand-new jingle for Hong Kong Radio's music program "騷動音樂."

On November 25, 2022, AP unveiled his third chart-topping song of the year, "離開的感覺", featuring a Pop R&B style and a music video starring actress Alma Kwok, portraying the story of a lost love. Within three weeks, the MV surpassed 200,000 views, earning the top spot on KKBOX R&B and Soul Singles Weekly Charts and the overall New Song Charts. AP's consistent success showcased his ability to connect with audiences across different genres and emotions.

In February 2023, AP showcased his compositional prowess by crafting the music for Alfred Hui's new song, "良心發現".

Towards the end of March 2023, AP took to social media to unveil the eagerly awaited first chart-topping song of the year, "天黑時想跟你到白頭". Collaborating with Ian Chan, Chau Yiu-fai, and JNYBeatz, the song made an impressive debut, securing the eighth position on KKBOX's New Song Charts, tenth spot on the Local New Song Weekly Chart, and the second position on RTHK Music Charts. It also claimed the second position on Metro Radio Music Charts.

In May 2023, AP released a new version of the song titled "天黑時想跟你到白頭feat.陳卓賢". Arranged by Nick Wong Siu-ming and co-produced by Gareth Chan, this rendition featured entirely re-recorded instrumentals and vocals. With the collaboration of an international guitarist and a Grammy-nominated mixing and mastering engineer, the new version immediately soared to the third position on KKBOX's New Song Daily Chart, the third spot on the Local New Song Weekly Chart, and entered Spotify Hong Kong's Viral Songs chart.

AP collaborated with the Hong Kong Hockey Association later that year, as they jointly released "Face Off", venturing into electronic and rap elements. This project also marked AP's debut in writing Cantonese lyrics.

In 2023, AP, alongside Gareth Chan, composed the song "抽" for Warner Music's MC Cheung. AP's impactful involvement in the composition and performance of "離開的感覺" also earned him a nomination for Best Melody at the 21st CASH Golden Sail Music Awards, showcasing his excellence in both vocal and creative aspects.

AP released his all-original album "HIGH TIME" later that year, taking charge of the entire album's creation, AP contributed to the composition or lyrics of every song.
