Dr. Oluremi Akinbobola, born in 1951, hails from the Idanre Local Government area of Ondo State, Nigeria. He is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a prominent political party in Nigeria. Dr. Akinbobola is married with two children, Kayode and Oludotun.
Professional and Public Service[edit]
A medical graduate from the University of Benin in 1983, established St.Margarets Hospital Idanre Ondo State. Dr. Akinbobola was appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan and served as the Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State on the board of the National Population Commission from 2012 to 2017. During his tenure, he made significant projections about the youth population in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of investing in their education, employment, health care, and comprehensive sexuality education.
Prior to his role in the National Population Commission, Dr. Akinbobola held the position of Ondo State's Health Commissioner from May 2003 to May 2007 under the administration of the late Dr. Olusegun Kokumo Agagu. His public service extends to various boards, including Wemabod Estates Limited Lagos and the University of Port-Harcourt Teaching Hospital. Political Affiliation and Defection[edit]
Before his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Oluremi Israel Akinbobola played a foundational role as a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), serving as the party's inaugural Deputy National Treasurer. On December 29, 2015, he orchestrated the migration of approximately 2500 supporters to the APC during a rally held in his native Idanre, situated within the Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State.
At the rally, Dr. Akinbobola articulated his aspiration to collaborate with the President and contribute to the advancement of the country. Despite not being appointed by the present administration, he commended the President's initiatives, particularly the 2016 plan designed to address corruption and foster gainful employment for the youth. 'We'll win Ondo election'[3]

The defection ceremony attracted key figures within the APC, including Prof. Claudius Omoleye Daramola, Former Minister of State for Niger Delta; the late Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu; the Chairman of the Board of the NNPC Chief Pius Olu Akinyelure; Olusegun Abraham; Chief Olusola Oke and former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Chief Ali Olanusi, among others.
