Nunzio Caponio (born 1966 in Vasto, Italy) is an Italian playwright, director, and actor.

In the 1990s, Caponio began his acting career in Hong Kong, where he pursued studies in acting and martial arts. During this period, he appeared in several action films, including ‘Black Mask’ (1996) and ‘Hitman’ (1998), both starring Jet Li, as well as ‘Armageddon’ (1997) with Andy Lau.

In 1999, he relocated to New York to further his studies in acting, directing, and playwriting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, and later, playwriting and screenwriting at New York University. While in New York, Caponio staged his first plays in Off-Off-Broadway theaters and produced his initial experimental short films, which received positive reviews from critics and audiences.

In 2005, Nunzio Caponio left the United States and moved to Amsterdam, where he collaborated with Dutch businessman and writer Luc Sala in creating the television program ‘Magnum Opus’. In Amsterdam, Caponio developed and introduced the 'Prime Acting' methodology, which integrates principles of Unconscious Communication with traditional acting techniques. This methodology aims to explore new frontiers in the art of acting, enhancing human understanding and expression.

In 2008, Caponio moved to Cagliari, Sardinia, where he focused on writing and directing for the theater. He staged numerous original works, including ‘In Una Stanza’, ‘Dentroterapia’, ‘Club X’, and ‘Sacra Famiglia’, produced by Sardegna Teatro, and ‘L’ospite’ (written and co-directed with Simeone Latini), ‘Gita All’Inferno’, ‘Pirandello Ora Pro Nobis’ produced by Akroama.

In 2018, he returned to the Netherlands where he wrote ‘Prospero e Miranda’, produced by Frascati Producties (Frascati Theatre), and ‘Lo Lie Taa’, produced by Het Zuidelijk Toneel (Southern Theatre), directed by Marijn Graven.

In 2019, he wrote ‘Donchisci@tte’, inspired by Miguel de Cervantes' ‘Don Quixote’, featuring Alessandro Benvenuti and Stefano Fresi, directed by Davide Iodice.

Caponio continues his career as a playwright, actor, and educator, teaching at numerous international schools.

He currently splits his time between Cagliari and Amsterdam.
