Maia Pearson (born December 1987) is a community organizer and the vice president of the Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education.
Personal life[edit]
Pearson is a Madison, Wisconsin native. She attended Madison public schools through high school, graduating from Madison West High School in 2006 and the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012.
Political career[edit]
Election[edit]
In 2020, Pearson announced her grassroots campaign for Madison's Board of Education seat 6, after Kate Toews decided to not seek re-election[1]. Pearson won the primary election with 43 percent of the vote over her two challengers[2]. Unfortunately, Pearson came up 3,052 votes short during the April general election, earning 47.9 percent of all votes[3]. In 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pearson decided to campaign for seat 1, held by incumbent Gloria Reyes, who announced she would not seek re-election[4]. Pearson run unopposed and was elected to the Madison's Board of Education on April 2021. Currently, she is running unopposed for her second term[5].
