Infant Jesus A.I Higher Secondary School is a school located in Tangasseri, Kollam, founded in 1940 by the Bishop of Quilon Rev. Fr Jerome M Fernandez.[1][2], the then predominant community of the area. The School is located near the Bishop House and also near to the Ancient Light House, a landmark of Quilon and the Tangaserri Fort Wall and the Sand Stone Arch Gate (Elephant Gate).[3]

History[edit]

The Infant Jesus Anglo-Indian Boys High School was inaugurated on 8th May 1940 by the then Bishop Of Quilon, Servant of God, the late Rev. Dr. Jerome M Fernandez. Mary Neto was the first Principal. Later on, in 1989 the Plus-2 section was incepted. Now the school which started only with 15 students and 2 teacher [citation needed], now have a strength of about 4500[4] students and 200 teachers and is now celebrating its Oak Jubilee in 2020 with Rev. Dr. Silvie Antony as the Principal.

Co-Curricular and Extracurricular Activities[edit]

The School provides from classes LKG upto Class XII. The school offers education in subjects like Maths, Science, Economics and specially on English, based on the ICSE/ISC curriculum.[5]It offers Science and Commerce streams at the higher secondary level. It also provides classes in extra-curricular activities[6] like Music, Yoga and Debate. The core school hours are from 8:50am–3:30pm. The school provides Value Based education and Catechism classes for Catholic Students. First Friday Holy Masses and rosary recitals are conducted for the Catholic Students.

The students are divided into four house based on their Patron Saint:

  Boscos
  Berchmans
  Brittos
  Savios. The Cultural Fest or Youth Festival, and the Athletic Meet fosters the competitive spirit and sportsmanship of the students. The school also compete regularly with other schools and were the Overall Champion from Category 1 to Category 5 (L.K.G till +2) except Category 2 (Classes 1, 2, 3) in 2023 ASISC Kerala Region Cultural Competition held at Loyola School, Trivandrum.[7][8]

world.[9]There are group activities/clubs like the English Club, Ever Green IJHS, Road Safety Club and and Science Club for the development and for excelling of the student . And the school also has facilities such as Smart Classes which are monitored by different agencies like Extramarks, Educomp and Teach Next.
