Imran Noshad Khan (Urdu: عمران نوشاد خان) is a Pakistani activist and podcaster who hails from Karachi.[1][2][3]

Early life and education[edit]

Imran was born at his native village in Buner District after which his family migrated to Karachi for better opportunities. He attended Federal Urdu University from where he earned a Master's degree in Social Work.[1][4]

Career and activism[edit]

Imran hosts The Northern Podcast on YouTube while he previously hosted Back 2 Basics podcast.[5] He worked in various non-governmental organizations.[4]

In 2020 he saved a beverage company driver from a violent religious mob which held him over blasphemic QR code on bottles. He was applauded by public for his act of bravery and PepsiCo also thanked him in a letter.[6][2]

He also campaigns for civic issues and interfaith harmony.[7][8] Supporting women and minority rights, he endorse Saveera Parkash the first Hindu women to contest elections from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for 2024 Elections from Imran's hometown Buner.[9] He has organized Climate March in Karachi and campaigns for Climate action in Pakistan.[10]

Controversy[edit]

Imran hosted an episode of podcast with human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari where issue of enforced disappearances in Pakistan and Pakistani military establishment's role in politics was discussed.[1] After the episode was aired on YouTube, he was booked under sedition charges for maligning state institutions and inciting hatred in public and went missing on 29 October 2023.[11] He was released three days later.[12] His disappearance was condemned by activists, journalists and politicians.[13]
