  • Comment: Not even close to being notable, likely needs to be included elsewhere in an appropriate article — MaxnaCarta  ( 💬 • 📝 ) 00:19, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: The 'Weblinks' (properly titled 'External links') section is much too long. Pick one or two that are most relevant and close to the subject, and remove the rest. Wikipedia articles are not link portals. DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:33, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: Most of the sources make no, or only passing, mentions of Dwarfism Awareness Day. The one that does, is closely associated with the subject. (And LinkedIn doesn't count.) DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:32, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: Quite a lot of the content seems to be about topics other than Dwarfism Awareness Day. Please cut out any diversions, ensuring that the draft stays within its topic area. DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:30, 19 November 2023 (UTC)

International Dwarfism Awareness Day[edit]

Individuals with dwarfism and global organizations supporting Little People and their families recognize October 25 as International Dwarfism Awareness Day[1][2].

In various nations[3][4][5][6], those with dwarfism continue to encounter social and physical barriers affecting their choices and opportunities. On this day, Little People join forces to advance awareness of dwarfism and express pride, aiming to confront these barriers and emphasize their right to self-determination and independence.[7][8]

Dwarfism refers to a condition characterized by short stature resulting from either genetic or medical factors. Typically, it is defined as an adult height of less than 4 feet 10 inches (147 centimeters), with Achondroplasia being one of the most recognizable conditions[9]. These disorders can be broadly categorized into two types:

Many dwarfism conditions have a genetic basis and may have a familial tendency. Some disorders may also be associated with additional complications such as vision or hearing issues, spinal problems, etc. Certain conditions may show partial improvement with medication, but it's crucial to undergo a thorough genetic evaluation before pursuing such options. Fortunately, the majority of these conditions do not affect intellectual capabilities, and individuals with dwarfism generally lead healthy lives, functioning normally in various aspects of life.

Utilization of Dwarfism Awareness Day in the Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Industry[edit]

In recent times, there has been a notable surge in medical and pharmaceutical research dedicated to Dwarfism, with a particular emphasis on achondroplasia[10][11]. The healthcare and pharmaceutical sector often utilizes awareness days to focus on specific medical conditions within their business portfolio. These designated days offer companies a chance to highlight particular medical conditions, emphasizing their effects on individuals and communities, and underscoring the importance of research, treatment, and support.

Major pharmaceutical players such as BioMarin Pharmaceutical[12], Pfizer[13], Sanofi[14], and BridgeBio Pharma[15] have made significant strides, with therapies already in the market, undergoing clinical trials, or in the research and development phase. This heightened focus reflects the commitment of these companies to addressing the unique needs of individuals affected by Dwarfism and achondroplasia.[16][17]
