Charles McCandless (November 28, 1834 – March 14, 1893)[1] was a justice of the New Mexico Territorial Supreme Court from 1878 to 1879.[2]

In February 1878 it was announced that "the President has nominated Charles McCandless of Pennsylvania Chief Justice Supreme Court of New Mexico".[3]

"Charles McCandless was born in Centre township., Nov. 28th, 1834. he read law with his uncle, C. C. Sullivan Esq., was admitted to the Bar in 1858, represented this this county in the State Senate in 1862; was appointed Judge in 1874; was appointed Chief Justice of New Mexico in 1877; and has practiced law in Butler and been one of the leading members of the Bar since".[1]

McCandless died from a sudden medical event at his law office in Butler, Pennsylvania, at the age of 59.[1]
