CRIPtic Arts is a British, disabled-led arts organisation.[1] CRIPtic produces and showcases theatre, runs development programmes for disabled people who work or want to work in the creative industries,[2] and carries out research and consultancy in the field of disability arts.
CRIPtic Arts was founded in 2019 by Jamie Hale. It was initially a showcase at the Barbican Centre,[3][4] and formed in 2021 as an independent organisation. In 2022 it was listed in the Shaw Trust Power 100 as one of the 100 most influential disabled people or disabled-led organisations in the UK,[5]
During the COVID-19 pandemic, CRIPtic Arts developed online programmes to support and connect disabled people through the arts, and to train disabled people for work in the creative industries. [6] It conducts research into how to produce and run accessible hybrid events,[7] and on the barriers faced by people with significant physical impairments working in London theatres [8]
Notable Figures[edit]
Performers who have appeared in CRIPtic's events include Signkid, Jackie Hagan, Jacqui Adeniji-Williams (Miss Jacqui), Deaf Rave, Flawbored, and Alice Christina Corrigan. CRIPtic has also worked with mentors and workshop leaders including Sin Wai Kin (Victoria Sin), Rachel Gadsden, and Sam Renke.
CRIPtic has showcased work at venues including the Barbican Centre,[9] HOME (Manchester),[10] and Camden People's Theatre.
