Alexander Spektor is a Moldovan composer and songwriter.
Early life and education[edit]
Spektor originates from Kishinev, the capital of the Moldovan Republic within the former USSR. He embarked on his musical journey early in life. His formative years saw him immersed in diverse educational pursuits, including completing studies at the esteemed College of Music in Russia.
Career[edit]
Spektor has released five albums. Beyond music, Spektor has collaborated with Austrian producer and director, Axel Corti, contributing to projects such as "Rings Strasse Paley," "The God Does Not Believe Anymore,"[1] and "The Sheeny Land."
In 1978, Spektor immigrated to Israel, subsequently settling in Vienna, Austria, and later relocating to Melbourne, Australia, in 1981.
In 1995, he founded his own record label, AM Music. The label produced a diverse array of albums, including the self-titled Destiny, Fiddling in Jazz, featuring Vitaly Barishnikov,[2] and the poignant Yiddish CD Vu is Dus Gesele. Spektor orchestrated a concert dedicated to the victims of the Holocaust at the National Theatre of Melbourne.
In 2003, Spektor co-founded the record label "InPictures"[3] with Paul Wiltshire. This endeavour culminated in the establishment of The Base Studios in Melbourne.[4]
Spektor produced and directed a documentary on the Russian Anzacs,[5] [6]a story largely missing from Australia's history books.
