Derways Cowboy (Ru:Дервейс Ковбой (Derveys Kovboy)), aka (Derways 3131) is a panel on space frame five-door J-segment SUV produced at the Derways factory in the city of Cherkessk, Karachay-Cherkessia, Russia from 2004 to 2006. The first prototype of this car was designed and first assembled in 2003 and was exhibited at the International Motor Show in Moscow.

Description

The SUV was built using components and units of the Romanian ARO 244 (transmission, steering, brakes, suspension), while the body was made on the basis of a tubular space frame using flat metal panels. Later, Chinese chassis were used. Cowboy went through all the tests at the training ground with us and received a certificate. The production plant was opened in 2004 serial production was started. By the end of the year, the car factory is approaching the design level of production of five thousand cars per year. In 2006, the plant suspended Cowboy production due to ARO's bankruptcy and began the local production of Chinese cars.

The Cowboy was designed by designer Oleg Shapkin from Tolyatti. Standard equipment includes: an adjustable steering column with the ability to adjust it in height; power windows for all doors; electric mirrors on the doors; a door with a gasket; a removable hatch in the roof; and front fog lights. When the rear seats are removed, the trunk volume increases from 600 liters to 1600 liters. The interior has the steering wheel, dashboard, and center console from the VAZ 2110 and seats from the UAZ. The Cowboy had four types of engines available. Transmission: a connected four-wheel drive with the possibility of forced blocking of the inter-coil differential and lowering gear. Air conditioning is not standard. Hydraulic wire. The front suspension has independent springs, while the rear suspension has independent springs. Front brakes are ventilated disk and the rear brakes are drum. Tire size is 265.

The Cowboy was produced on the ARO 244 chassis until 2005 when it was moved to a Chinese chassis, after which it was produced until 2006.

The Cowboy sold about 800 copies. Other sources say Derways produced about 5000 cowboys and a few hundred of the Chinese ones, although Kostya from AcademeG believes only 164 Cowboys were produced.

Engines

During the course of production the Cowboy was produced with the following four engines:

• The baseline engine for Сowboy is the ZMZ-409.10 I4 2.7-liter DOHC gasoline engine (142 hp / 4400 rpm, 230 Nm / 3900 rpm) matched to a Romanian 5-speed manual gearbox,
• there is an optional Peugeot DW10TD (EUROIII) I4 / 2-liter DOHC turbo diesel (90 hp / 4000 rpm, 205 Nm / 1900 rpm) from the French INC.
• 2,4 LT Mitsubishi 4G64 2.4 liter fuel injected I4 produced by Shenyang Aerospace Mitsubishi Motors Engine Manufacturing (SAME),
• 3,0 MT Nissan VG30E is 2,960 cc (3.0 L) V6 producing 153 hp (114 kW) and 182 lb⋅ft (247 N⋅m). Bore and stroke is 87 mm × 83 mm (3.43 in × 3.27 in).
