Universities in London[edit]

This category was moved from "Universities in London" in July 2014. I would like to

Pinging Armbrust, Timrollpickering and Black Falcon as participants in the discussion to see if my suggestion could be improved. Any suggestions from other followers of the category are also welcome. TSventon (talk) 12:24, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like a fine idea to me, but I admit I do not know enough about higher education in England to comment with certainty. I am pinging User:BrownHairedGirl (not English, I know...), User:Fayenatic london, User:Peterkingiron, and User:Redrose64, as editors who are potentially more informed on this topic. Cheers, -- Black Falcon (talk) 05:08, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Black Falcon, I have now started a discussion of "Universities in England, so I have pinged everyone there. TSventon (talk) 08:30, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fine by me; Category:Universities and colleges in England has been stable with a structure like that for several years. If there is no dissent then I am willing to do it as a move, then recreate the parent. – Fayenatic London 08:32, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fayenatic, is a week long enough to establish no dissent and would that need a CfD request? Almost half of the members of the current category are not universities (including defunct defunct institutions, members of the University of London, foreign university campuses and university colleges) so a lot of manual moving will be needed either way. TSventon (talk) 09:13, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like a good idea to me. Category:Universities and colleges in London is big enough to benefit from this sort of sub-categorisation. However, there's no need to follow @Fayenatic's suggestion of moving any existing category page. Just create the new subcats, and use WP:Cat-a-lot to populate them. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 12:10, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, no need, but (i) the page history is mostly as a category for universities alone, and (ii) the Wikidata links are mainly just universities, not "universities and colleges". – Fayenatic London 13:27, 1 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fayenatic I agree with your arguments, please could you do the move and then recreate the parent as you suggested. I could then use WP:Cat-a-lot as suggested. TSventon (talk) 08:41, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon: Done, please go ahead. – Fayenatic London 22:34, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Fayenatic, thanks , I have done the obvious moves and will take a look at the remaining articles later. TSventon (talk) 09:02, 5 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
