There is a town called Eugene in Missouri. It is very small, but it has everything all the other towns do that are listed here. Eugene has a grocery store, a high school and elementary school, a golf course, a sports bar, and 2 convenient stores. So maybe Eugene should be added to the list.

Missouri does not recognize towns as legal entities. They are either cities, villages, or unincorporated communities. I have moved the articles formerly here to their appropriate categories and have put up a request to delete this category.Rt66lt 01:36, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Towns do exist in Missouri[edit]

The existence of legally-constituted towns in Missouri was rejected in this deletion discussion, in which it was stated that there are no towns in the state. I beg to differ for two reasons: (1) Census data, and (2) the Missouri Revised Statutes. The Factfinder data for many different municipalities statewide (for example, Conception Junction) records these places as towns, and the Census Bureau has an interest in accuracy: such a blatant error for many communities statewide would be extremely unlikely.

Moreover, state law acknowledges towns in places such as §71.012:

"Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 71.015 and 71.860 to 71.920, the governing body of any city, town or village may annex unincorporated areas which are contiguous and compact to the existing corporate limits of the city, town or village pursuant to this section."

This demonstrates that, contrary to statements previously made in the deletion discussion and at the top of this page, legally-constituted towns do exist in Missouri. Nyttend (talk) 16:02, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
