Untitled[edit]

From Category:The arts:

The Arts is a broad subdivision of culture, comprising many expressive disciplines. In modern usage it is a broader term than "art", which usually means specifically visual art (comprised of fine art and sometimes also applied art).

From Category talk:The arts:

The Arts category[edit]

This category is for The Arts—however, the Wikipedia category name for this concept is Arts (by consensus).

I have created Category:The Arts with a redirect from Category:The arts after discuss under Category_talk:Art#Category:ArtJonathan Bowen 18:12, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have re-added the "Culture" category — The Arts are a very important sub-part of culture in my view! — Jonathan Bowen 21:53, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sub-categorization[edit]

It's usually taboo to put something in both a category and its parent category. In this case, Category:Music, Category:Dance, and Category:Theatre are in both Category:Performing arts and Category:Arts. Shouldn't they just go in Performance arts? --Vossanova o< 20:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arts -> Art[edit]

Surely "Art" (i.e. Visual arts) is a subcategory of "Arts" (as are "Performing arts", "Music" etc.). Shouldn't all "Art" categories be moved to Category:Visual arts? Sionk (talk) 01:25, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
