Many plants have been added to this Category:Flora of Maldives which are not native, let alone endemic, to the Maldives:

This list includes many plants cultivated in many parts of the world for food (bananas, chili peppers, ...) or as ornamentals (Terminalia catappa, Oleander, ...) and many which have escaped cultivation or become weeds in many parts of the world (Syzygium jambos, etc.). We can't possibly have attach Flora of XXX tags to all such plants for all relevant XXX's. And almost all of these plants aren't even native to the Maldives, let alone endemic. To make this category useful, I would recommend narrowing it to Endemic flora of the Maldives. --Macrakis 15:23, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with renaming categories Flora by country, because each country should have its own category (in accordance with: Fauna by country and Biota by country categories), besides, Flora includes beyond endemic, the native species. I suggest a list for the exclusively endemic species. Berton 14:13, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank for the comment. Maldives is a small country and consist of a very few varieties of plants. Probably there won't be even 500 of those plants listed on wikipedia. My aim is to help those who are doing research on related topic. Most Maldivians would not know the English name for majority of plants that grow in their country. With a list like this, it would be easier to know the English names and find more details about the specific plant. However, as suggested, I would consider narrowing down the list to those difficult to find plants - or create a separate list, not a category. Thanks.Ibn zareena 18:40, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See exclusion criteria, please. I suggest a list for the grown species in this country.Berton 14:13, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
