Category name[edit]

This is a very poor category name. We already have categories for avant-garde ensembles in various genres. This one lists no genre. Badagnani (talk) 21:42, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just propose a name change. (Mind meal (talk) 01:51, 2 May 2008 (UTC))[reply]

"Avant-garde jazz ensembles" would be suitable. We already have Category:Contemporary classical music ensembles for groups that play music by Morton Feldman, Louis Andriessen, Iannis Xenakis, Robert Ashley, and similar composers. Badagnani (talk) 22:58, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Currently this category is being used for other flavors of avant-garde (besides jazz). The result is that non-jazz articles such as Swans (band) are ending up tagged as WP:JAZZ articles. I suggest creating "Avant-garde jazz ensembles" (it could be a sub-cat of this one) and moving the jazz-related articles into it. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 15:02, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

checkY Done. We might consider doing the same for the other sub-cats in Category:Avant-garde jazz musicians by instrument. Currently I think these are mostly jazz articles, but I think there are plenty of non-jazz musicians who would fall within Category:Avant-garde pianists. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 15:56, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
