From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For a brief period of time in the mid- to late-1950s, magnetic amplifiers were experimented with as a solid state switching device for computer systems. This produced a small number of magnetic logic based machines. The introduction of newer transistor fabrication techniques led to rapidly falling prices and improved performance, and by the early 1960s most efforts using magamps had ended.
