Catch Me If You Can (Russian: Поймай меня, если сможешь, romanizedPoymay menya, yesli smozhesh')[1] is an upcoming Russian television mystery music game show, assigning as a breakaway show and also a unofficial adaptation of the South Korean programme I Can See Your Voice.[2][3] It is scheduled to premiere on Rossiya-1 on 24 May 2024.[4]

Gameplay[edit]

Format[edit]

The game is presented with two opposing teams; "stars" (consisting of celebrity panelists actually playing as guest artists) and "intruders" (consisting of 18 mystery singers).[a] Over the course of four rounds, the mystery singers must attempt to deceive guest artists by performing a lip sync of their own. Each round, the guest artists score one to three points if a bad singer was captured; the "intruders" also get one point if a good singer was captured. At the end of the game, a highest-scoring team has deliberated to predict whether the "surprise" mystery singer is good or bad.[a]

If a team of guest artists or "intruders" predicted the "surprise" mystery singer right, they won 1,000,000 ; if either predicted wrong, the main prize is given to opposing team instead.

Rounds[edit]

Throughout the game, all of mystery singers perform a lip sync to a song; good singers mime to a recording of their own, while bad singers mime to a recording by someone else. Also, they are not allowed to talk everybody until the guest artists capture them to perform on the "stage of truth". At the conclusion of performances, the guest artists capture one mystery singer from each group.

Notes
  1. ^ a b For the show's gameplay changes, based on playing time of an episode:[4]
    • The number of mystery singers are set to 18, plus a "surprise" entrant at the end of the game.
      • Actually, a "surprise" mystery singer[5][6] can perform freely without accompanying guest artist(s) for a duet;[7] this was introduced in the 8th[8] and 10th seasons[9] of original South Korean counterpart.
    • With the battle format (adapted from Giọng ải giọng ai) having applied,[10][11] the game is divided into two unique teams; the "stars" (a group of guest artists) and "intruders" (a batch of mystery singers), same as used in the Star Wars special of original South Korean counterpart.[12][13]

Background[edit]

Production and development[edit]

As part of CJ ENM's multiple licensing deals related to I Can See Your Voice with Fremantle dated back November 2020, Russian state-owned broadcaster VGTRK was one of them to acquire the rights for producing a local adaptation as Ya vizhu tvoy golos (Russian: Я вижу твой голос),[14][15] which began airing on 14 May 2021.[16] VGTRK was supposedly planned to renew for a second season,[17][2] but it was later decided to continue the show anyway neither of those companies have involved, which is actually considered a domestic response to their invasion of Ukraine.[1][3]
