The surname Baucke initially appeared in Alsace and Franconia, regions where the name is thought to have had a significant early impact on the feudal society that served as the foundation for early European civilization.[1]

The rose to prominence in local affairs and spread into numerous houses that were significant players in the brutal national and tribal wars, with each group vying for control and position within a constantly shifting geographical landscape. With Cunz Bock being knighted by King Albrecht I of Germany in 1298 and his descendant George Jacob serving as mayor of the city in 1587, the Bock branch of Strasbourg had prominence in this city.
