Minor edits[edit]

Your edit re Istanbul was a good one, thank you. Thank you especially for including a detailed edit note that explained why you made the change. So it feels rather pedantic of me but I thought you might prefer to know that the 'minor' tag does not mean "just a few words", it means "a trivial change of grammar or spelling that does not have any significant effect on the meaning of the article". For example, changing "not" to "now" affects only one letter but can have a major effect. For the long explanation, see WP:MINOR. The mistake is one that most new editors make and is not remotely serious.

As a general principle, don't worry about making mistakes as it is very easy to correct them. We have all learned by trial and error, almost nobody starts by studying the Wikipedia:Manual of Style! Again, welcome. --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 10:30, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@John Maynard Friedman: Hi John, thank you very much for your correction and encouragement. Apologies for the error, I will consult the manual for future reference. --Orange378474 (talk) 17:41, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely no need to apologise, as I said it was a trivial error. (Indeed there is never a case to apologise for any mistake made in wp:good faith.) I guess you haven't found out about WP:watchlist yet? It is just a way to tag articles you have edited, to keep an eye on changes to them in case there might be misunderstandings or outright vandalism. If pushed for time and you have accumulated a big list, you might choose to skip the articles tagged as 'minor change' – but that presupposes that the M was used correctly.
If you consult the MOS before every edit, you will be a member of a very tiny group of maybe one member – you :-D The only reason to consult the manual is if you need to see how best to write something. Happy editing! --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 18:30, 22 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
