Notable residents

The list is getting a little long, a bit of duplication from the sports section (Petes). Perhaps a break down showing sports, the arts, government, etc?? Bacl-presby 16:16, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

  • I went and created a separate article simply because there were so many people. However, I'm not sure whether I should just get rid of the list on this article completely and leave a link to the main article, or if I should leave a few current residents or something else entirely. Any opinions? Matt Astell (talk) 17:44, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Another notable resident is "Liberty Silver" who grew up on Cottonwood Drive as Elizabeth Lawrence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.68.34.194 (talk) 11:00, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

Transportation

Trentway Wagner?? Bacl-presby 00:23, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

It's the intercity coach line of choice for deceased Norse warriors. —Eric S. Smith 02:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Isn't the public transportation section a bit too detailed? Anyone have an opinion? - User:kerryday

  • Well, many Transit systems in Ontario have their own sites and even a category or two; are you willing to make it an article? Just remember to add in the categories! Bacl-presby 23:09, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
  • I see there is one; fairly much a duplication, and the City entry is over 30 kilobites long..

City infobox tmeplate

I copied the infobox from Toronto (which uses Template:Infobox City) and tranfered the data to it. I see that Vancouver uses Template:British Columbia municipality infobox infobox while Oakville, Ontario uses Template:Canadian City. There does not seem to be an Ontario specific city template listed at Category:City_infobox_templates - what should we be using? j-beda 02:00, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

This isn't a Listings Site

People can find out the listings for anything - people want context and history - hence Wikipedia. There's a few of you here who think that this is nothing more then a list site - well go look at a real encyclopedia!!!

Remember this isn't a Yahoo Listings page - people know how to google!

Content should provide the reader with information and insight for the region - anyone can find a list of things in Peterborough, what's harder to find is the history and context of the various elements that make up the city.

I'm here in Russia... at an American school... and I've found people who actually know Peterborough by the bands Hawk Nelson and Thousand Foot Krutch. I think this article should say something about Peterborough's music industry and large Christian population. Out dated abstract 10:48, March 25, 2006

I don't see your issue. While its a work in progress, the page isn't excessively long and gives a reasonable synopsis of the area's history and key features. It quickly puts a number of community resources at your fingertips. There have been a several of useful additions (bravo to the folks who put together the media and arts sections) and the event section helps to highlight the importance of the tourist trade in the area - especially in summer.
As to the music side of things, every good-sized town in Ontario has bands of that type. That's a very specialized niche interest and those types of bands come and go all the time. Collectively these small town bands are probably an important part of the music industry in the province as centered around Toronto, but basically the small town scene (including Peterborough) offers bands or musicians the chance to earn their chops before "making it big".
Similarly, I'm not aware that the city is characterized by a Christian population that would necessarily distinguish it (large? activist? headquartered? ??) in any way from that of any other Ontario community.
I think your POV is showing. Sign your posts, please. Wiggy! 21:40, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Demographics

What about a demographics chart like Kelowna BC has?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelowna#Demographics Altonbr (talk) 16:07, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

  • I started on a historical population chart, but I'm having a tough time finding census data online. I have a bit of a start there, but if anyone either wants to add or feels it should be scrapped, go right ahead. I'll maybe give it another try when it's not 3 in the morning. Weather

Any information on a weather chart for Peterborough? Example from Hamilton: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Hamilton%2C_Ontario&oldid=207442372#Geography Altonbr (talk) 05:48, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Only free zoo...

This claim (since removed) isn't accurate. The St. Louis Zoo is also free. Rklawton (talk) 03:49, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

I recall hearing that Peterborough is unique not for their free admission, but because they also have free parking. According to http://www.stlzoo.org/yourvisit/hourspricesdirections.htm parking costs $11 per vehicle in St. Louis j-beda (talk) 03:16, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Picture

The current picture in the section "Arts and Culture" is of a parking lot & discount store. Surely there are better photos of downtown Peterborough that can be used? DanTrent (talk) 15:22, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
