RFID[edit]

The article is "Calypso (RFID)", but under "Technical aspects" it says "The contactless interface (improperly called RFID)...". So is it RFID or not? There's no other reference in the article to RFID. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:48, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've renamed the page. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:17, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Calypso is indeed an RFID technology (like Mifare for example, but contrary to Mifare, it is not proprietary of one company, but managed by a non profit association, like Bluetooth for example). Therefore, it should remain under Calypso (RFID). Calypso is NOT a ticketing system. The technology may be used for ticketing and other applications (and is mainly used presently for ticketing applications). 82.226.19.5 (talk) 10:32, 5 January 2010 (UTC)Frederic LEVY, 5 January 2010[reply]

If you are correct, then the article needs to be updated/clarified accordingly, because it currently says: "Calypso is an international electronic ticketing standard ..." and it does not mention RFID except to say "The contactless interface (improperly called RFID) ...". However, the first two references given in the article (http://www.calypsonet-asso.org/ http://www.calypsotechnology.net/) describe Calypso as an "electronic ticketing platform" and "electronic ticketing standard". There's nothing that actually describes it as RFID. Is there another reference that describes it as RFID? Even if it is RFID - which may be the case, given the very broad scope of RFID - wouldn't it be better to name the article for the more specific "electronic ticketing" (which the references claim that it is) than the more general "RFID"? Regardless of the outcome of this discussion, we need to ensure that there is only one article. Currently we seem to have two separate articles: Calypso (RFID) and Calypso (electronic ticketing system), neither of which appears to be a redirect to the other. I suggest keeping (and renaming back to its original name, if that is the consensus) the current electronic ticketing system article, because it has the complete history. Note that one talk page does appear to be a redirect to the other. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:30, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Does anyone (including 82.226.19.5) have any objections to my deleting Calypso (RFID) and keeping Calypso (electronic ticketing system) as described above? (I'll locate anything that links to Calypso (RFID) and change it to link to Calypso (electronic ticketing system), as I did previously.) Does anyone have any comments on my reasons listed above? I've created Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Calypso_(RFID). If anyone still object (after reading my reasons above) please continue the debate on the AfD page, per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Mitch Ames (talk) 06:15, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
