Aïssa Aggoune is an advocate and a Canadian tenants' rights activist. Aïssa Aggoune has represented more than 500 tenants as an advocate during their hearings in Vancouver, BC. As part of his efforts to reduce the impact of the housing crisis[1], Aissa Aggoune met with the Minister of Housing David Eby twice.[2]
Activism[edit]
As a member of the Steering Committee[3][4] of the Vancouver Tenants Union, Aïssa Aggoune has organized numerous buildings in the West End of Vancouver, BC. He has been appointed as the French media liaison for the Vancouver Tenant Union, giving numerous interviews in the media[5] advocating for a resolution to the housing crisis and homelessness in BC.[6][7][8]
His work includes:
- Appearing at hearings to defend tenants in financial difficulties[9][10]
- Helping vulnerable tenants in the community by educating them on their rights[11]
- Teaching tenants how to organize themselves including door knocking campaigns, identifying and training leaders in the community to build solidarity and fight for their rights[12]
On August 8 2022, Aïssa Aggoune gave a TV interview on the French CBC,[13] exposing the BC housing scandal and the Shayne Ramsay conflict of interest reports in the handling of the 2 billion dollars budget.[14]
