User:Giftlite removed the following record:

Currently, the largest known prime Thabit number corresponds to n = 164987, a number of almost 50000 digits in base 10.

I trust him that there is in fact a new record, a bigger Thabit number, but I would still like to see some mention of that new record. PrimeFan 22:14, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Giftlite 05:25, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. PrimeFan 15:51, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A previous version of this page claimed that 3 * 2^n - 1 is prime for n = 7033641, 5082306 and 2291610. These numbers did not occur on the list of such n that was linked as a citation. In the case of 7033641 this is obviously false, because 5 divides 3 * 2^n-1. A little sleuthing discovered that 3*2^n+1 is prime for each of these numbers, which I have now edited the page to say (together with a citation). However, I don't know for a fact that 3 * 2^n-1 is not prime for n = 5082306 or 2291610. -- David Speyer — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.211.62.214 (talk) 17:56, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
