Notable[edit]

What makes this disappearance notable? leparsdon (talk) 18:17, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There does appear to be significant and sustained coverage. Besides all the references included in the article, here are a few more pieces of coverage that I found with a quick google search: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]. I think the amount of news coverage satisfies GNG and there may be further coverage in books and academic literature - I'm not personally up for going down that research rabbithole today though :P Ethmostigmus (talk) 06:18, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So does this mean any media covered case of a similar nature qualifies as notable? Even if it is highly regional and the coverage is all incredibly recent? leparsdon (talk) 15:36, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It should also be noted that all the sources you have from the google search all say the exact same thing just with the amount of time they've been missing updated. leparsdon (talk) 15:41, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think an incident being "regional" makes it non-notable, and coverage of this family is certainly not all recent - the articles I found on the first page of google are all from the 2010s-present day, as this is the period in which online news really took off (with the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, in which relatives of the family participated, occurring from 2016-2019), but the references included in the article itself include from the 80s and 90s up to 2023 and even more coverage is most certainly available in newspaper archives. This does, in my opinion, rise to the level of significant coverage. The fact that the sources I linked in my comment repeat similar information isn't really relevant to questions of notability - there are only so many ways of telling a story, after all.
Ultimately, if you dispute the notability of this article, you are most welcome to take it to AfD for further discussion. Ethmostigmus (talk | contribs) 09:10, 18 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
