Myriam Fares (Arabic: ميريام فارس, mīryam fāris; born 3 May 1983) is a Lebanese singer, performer, and songwriter known as “The Queen of Stage” with a music career spanning for 20 consecutive years since 2003. [2] Myriam started her ballet dance classes at the age of five and her remarkable talent blossomed further when, at the age of nine, she nailed the prize of oriental dance from “Little Talents” program on Lebanese public television. At the age of 15, Myriam rolled into the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory School, setting the stage for her future career.  When she reached the age of 20, she officially embarked on her professional path. Myriam focused on perfecting her artistic talent to become the professional artist she is today. [3] [4]

Her fifth studio album Aman (2015) broke record for being the most played album on the streaming service Anghami[5] and also made her acting debut with the TV series Itiham.[6] In 2021, Fares starred in her own Netflix documentary film Myriam Fares: The Journey which made her the first Middle Eastern and Arab artist to release a documentary on Netflix, with it ranking at number 1 in several countries worldwide.[7] Her 2018 single "Goumi" gained popularity on TikTok after a viral dance challenge created by Fares herself and has surpassed 10 billion total views.[8] Myriam joined forces with Nicki Minaj and Maluma in 2022 on the official FIFA World Cup single "Tukoh Taka"[9]

Tukoh Taka[edit]

In 2022, Myriam was chosen by the FIFA panel to be the performing artist representing the Arab world for the official FIFA Fan Festival anthem of the Qatar World Cup. [10]Alongside global artists Nicki Minaj and Maluma, she performed the song "Tukoh Taka." Notably, Myriam played a significant role in the song's development, contributing to the arrangement, composing the Arabic part, and designing the choreography for the music video herself. Upon its release, "Tukoh Taka" quickly rose to the top of the music charts in both the region and the world, marking a remarkable achievement. One distinctive feature of the song and its music video was its incorporation of three different languages: English, Spanish, and Arabic. Maluma decided to sing his Latin part over the Arabic melody composed by Myriam, while Nicki Minaj contributed her rap section to the song's distribution. In the Arabic part, Myriam included special requests, incorporating keywords that carried meaningful messages. Examples of these included "Yalla Sawa," which means "let us get together," and "Salam," which means "hello" and "peace" at the same time to bring peace for the Arab countries, particularly for Lebanon. The music video was shooted in LA. [11] The FIFA Fan Festival's opening in Qatar witnessed an extraordinary performance by Myriam, featuring 50 dancers, 50 musicians, 400 costumes,40 technicians and Graphics. This grand showcase propelled Myriam's career beyond the Arab region, establishing her as an international artist. The song kept trending at number 1 for three weeks on trending for music and 2 weeks on a global music video. [12][13]

Myriam Fares: The Journey on Netflix[edit]

In 2021, Netflix chose Myriam as the first Arab Artist to make a documentary film on her personal life. The documentary recounts Real-life experiences in Myriam’s personal and professional life.[14] Netflix documentary: “Myriam Fares: The Journey” was intentionally released During the Covid-19 pandemic since people all over the world were not able to connect socially. Myriam found it empathetic to share for the first time how she and her family coped with this situation. It happened that she discovered that she was pregnant during Covid-19, so she wanted to share detailed pregnancy stages. The documentary achieved great success revealing her personal life for the first time, from pregnancy and delivery to music and studio preparations.[15][16] Immediately after its release, the documentary ranked number 1 for 2 weeks in the Arabic and International films category, as well as Netflix documentaries, and series, remaining in the top 10 list for 2 months.[17] “Myriam Fares: The Journey” consistently ranked among the top searched titles on Netflix in the region, for the duration of its broadcast. Myriam ended the documentary in a music video for the new release “Ghaddara Ya Dounya”.

Goumi[edit]

When Myriam released the song “Goumi” in 2018, Myriam thought that she will not be able to stand on stage ever to perform as usual. However, she found herself producing a song that encouraged girls to stand up and dance and she meant herself. Following a dance challenge that Myriam launched on her Instagram for “Goumi”, the song went viral, not only in the Arab region but also around the world. In a surprising turn of events, in 2022, TikTok announced in its official reports that it had achieved an astounding 8.4 billion views. To date, the “Goumi” challenge surpassed an astonishing 10.2 billion views. This song has achieved great popularity both within the Arab and international music on TikTok.[18][19] Following the successes of "Goumi" and "Tukoh Taka," Myriam garnered significant attention and was invited for numerous international interviews on television and in magazines. One notable interview was with "Fox 5DC," where she was asked about the meaning behind "Tuko Takah" and her feelings about becoming an international singer. [20]
