Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Democrat userbox

View of Initiator[edit]

Me and StuffOfInterest have had There's been a tiny edit war (3,4 reverts over a month or so) about the Democratic Party (United States) user box, or at least, that's what it's assumed as. Currently, the template is at {{User democrat}}, although there is another template for registered Democrats(even though there is no real clarification about how the first template isn't about the same thing) at {{User dem}}

I'll put what the two look like on the talk page.

I propose that we put a picture of some Ancient Greek subject or perhaps something having to do with a New England town meeting or Pro-Democracy Protests in China or something else as the portrait to replace that ugly "dem" currently on the left hand side. Otherwise, I assume this is about "upper case D" Democrats (the political party, not the political ideology), and I think a deletion of one of them is in order. karmafist 21:09, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Update[edit]

I'd just like to state, this is about the userbox, not any users involved, and I apologize if there was any misconception to that goal. Per WP:AGF, i'm striking out the part above, and I'll strike out anything on the talk page in regards to any users. I'd also like to ask StuffofInterest to do the same below in regard to any ad hominem statements. karmafist 22:20, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, it's done. The two new boxes are at {{User sociocracy}} and {{User democracy}} karmafist 06:42, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think you aimed your RfC at the wrong person as I'm not the one who took the donkey out of the template the 2nd time. Speak with Wikiacc regarding his removal on the basis of Wikipedia:Fair use#Policy. After you reverted my revert the first time I said have it your way. Also, what you put on the talk page is not what I had earlier anyway. Please check the edit history before you start throwing acusations around. --StuffOfInterest 22:08, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Removed my acusation of Karmafist making acusations. I really don't care what the template has in it as I've stopped using it. --StuffOfInterest 22:27, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Solutions[edit]

Proposed Solution by karmafist[edit]

put Image:Town meeting.JPG in as the left hand picture of the Democracy(the political ideology) user box. Here's what it looks like. It's a picture of Norman Rockwell's painting of a man talking at a town meeting found at Four Freedoms.

Proposed Solution by Herostratus[edit]

The parthenon.
Someone suggested the Parthenon as the left-hand picture for the Democracy (the political ideology) box. I propose that. Here's a pic we could use.

New Proposed Solution/Compromise by karmafist[edit]

Hey, might as well do both! I think the New England town meeting is the closest thing outside Wikipedia to a working sociocracy, so maybe the Norman Rockwell can be in regards to sociocracy, and Herostratus'es idea can be used for Democracy, since the Athenians did invent the idea.
