The result of the debate was Delete - The rationale for this image states "This image is used in the article Celebrations of the September 11, 2001 attacks, in a discussion about how this image (and other images from the same set) from Associate Press were released as depicting Palestinians celebrating the September 11, 2001 attacks, and the subsequent accusations that this is a staged scene.", but there is currently no discussion of this image or the set or even Associated Press photographs in the article. It therefore does not meet the requirements for Non-free iconic images.
Invalid fair use claim. The image shows children - we know what children look like. It doesn't add anything to our understanding of the article and can be adequately described in words. Whilst the "urban legend" is commented on, the precised contents of the photo are not. Docg 11:31, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Keep - the text is:
"in the images you see jubilant Palestinian children and several adults but it is impossible to know if they are necessarily pleased about the attack reports"
However, I consider the image adds significantly to the article, if only because it allows the reader to judge whether the scene appears staged. PhilKnight (talk) 13:32, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's disingenuous. It is our responsibility to show verifiable, true information. It is most certainly not our responsibility to show possibly false information in the hopes that distinguishing true from false will somehow illuminate the reader. Protonk (talk) 17:37, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Keep. The entire article is essentially about this image (let's not kid ourselves.) There are no free images of the alleged Palestinian celebration, so a non-free image is necessary. <eleland/talkedits> 13:52, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Delete It doesn't MATTER that the caption text says that is impossible to know why these children are celebrating. It is in an article about Palestinians celebrating 9/11. We all know what children celebrating looks like. We don't need an image to help us visualize that. This is like taking a picture of white men celebrating for an unknown reason and attaching it to a section on white celebration of the assassination of martin luther king jr. We would almost be compelled to assume that those men in the picture would be celebrating the act, even though the picture itself may not be of that act. It isn't necessary to the article. It isn't assuredly ABOUT the article. It needs to go. Protonk (talk) 17:32, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Keep. Fair use of a historically significant photograph.--Eloquence* 20:51, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
