Advice

I was just browsing and found this recently added article - Samspin Seems an odd article, and not sure if it should be deleted, although I am inclined to think so. Just it is an area I know little about - how and where to nominate articles for deletion? thanks ♦Tangerines BFC ♦·Talk 02:30, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

About final warnings

Thank you for making a report about 195.173.86.10 (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. I've given them a final warning, and if there is anymore vandalism from this IP I will issue a block. Cheers Khukri 17:50, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

As you may or may not have noticed most of the edits if not all involved the editing and addition of references. Hitting the "preview" button does not allow the changes to references be seen. I believe you know this. Chensiyuan 06:36, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay putting my rampant editing style aside for a while, I would really welcome input from you on how the article can be improved. Specifically, what other ingredients (or things to remove) to make it a GA. Chensiyuan 10:02, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism...

Origin.

As a lifelong Newcastle fan who has to put up with a) Kieron Dyer picking up £80,000 a week for doing little or nothing except acting like a big time Charlie and b) Alan Oliver's increasingly inane ramblings in the local press, I feel that both my recent edits were pretty factual. However, point taken that this is viewed by others as vandalism and I shall refrain from such controversial edits in the future.. Warning heeded.. Kerouac151 09:50, 23 May 2007 (UTC)kerouac151

The anon has vandalized only twice in one week, and has not received any previous blocks. The warnings weren't recent, so I thought a 24-hour block will suffice. Of course, if he returns, the block period ought to extend. —Anas talk? 10:51, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

I think I'll strategically close my eyes when he appears so I can plausibly argue that he was not there and doesn't merit addition to the article. <.< >.> MissMJ 22:20, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

your edit to Good Will Hunting looks good

Looks good. To be honest, I didn't read past the first line. It drives me nuts when I read a review that says "Al Pacino robs a bank ..."[1].

How would you interpret this phrase from the same paragraph?

  • "...he talks about his wife..."

Yes. I am not sure what the facts are, but ISTM that it could be worded "...he talks about his character's wife...". What do you think? --Jtir 19:55, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Billyconnollynz.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Billyconnollynz.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:07, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Time to go

Sadly I will not be involving myself in Wikipedia any more. This is due to the jobsworths who have too much time on there hands that they feel they must go around finding fault in articles just for the sake of it and editing them just so as to annoy people or because they feel that because they have access to a PC and a keyboard they can show people just how clever they really are. Its sad because this site is possibly the best and most comprehensive information outlet on the net. Its just a shame it is controlled and accessed by people with little else to do. The articles I have written are based solely on fact and are of subjects which are of great interest to me. Therefore if they come across as being a little biased that is purely unintentional. However to sabotage articles for the sheer hell of it is for me quite pathetic. I really couldn't be that bothered. The article I wrote on Lancaster City F.C. is possibly the most comprehensive account of the club anywhere on the Internet but to some people it is just an excuse to find fault. I may not be as well educated as some and my articles may not come across as the work of a literary genius but believe me I am not stupid. It does seem though that some people really need to think about geting a life as what goes on on this excellent site is being spoilt by a few self important prats.User:Doctor Jimmy

Image removals

I noticed the Rangers badge being removed from the club articles, and a check of the editor's contribs showed he seemed to be removing images exclusively from articles you are involved in editing. Could well be in good faith, but the ones I've looked at so far appear to have been incorrectly described as copyvios, thought you'd like to check it out. WATP  (talk)(contribs) 20:26, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

It's not good faith, but it's not much work to undo his lazy edits. He even gave up using edit summaries at one point. I'll take matters further if needs be. - Dudesleeper · Talk 00:25, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm

I'm having a little trouble doing what you wanted me to. I tried but then some content was gone, it was jumbled ect. you may want to put a helpme on your talkpage and someone can help though. If you have anymore questions ask me anytime I can help on almost anything. Also it was kind to let me know you reverted my edit. I really appreciate that! Later man! SuperBall53 12:50, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

{{helpme}}

I reverted SuperBall53's page move for the above to Lee Collins (football player) because there's another football (soccer) player by the name of Lee Collins (whose birthdate hasn't yet been found). It seems I've messed up and created a double redirect somewhere along the line. Would you mind fixing it so that both Lee Collins (football player) and Lee Collins (football player born 1974) point to Lee Collins (footballer born 1974)? - Dudesleeper · Talk 12:46, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

You can edit a redirect by clicking on the 'redirected from' message at the top of the screen. However, the page's history seems to be in the wrong place; this needs an administrator to sort out (I'm doing it now). --ais523 12:57, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
I think I've sorted it. Can you check that everything's in the right place? --ais523 12:58, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
Yep, all redirects are pointing as they should. Many thanks. - Dudesleeper · Talk 13:00, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

sorry but why revert Cowell back to England? I am hoping to revamp the page a bit and I am working on it to add new info. Shouldn't we be politicly correct on Wikipedia? :)212.21.113.162 21:54, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

We do not allow fair-use images in infoboxes, because infoboxes are deemed to be a decorative feature not a part of the analysis of the subject. Kindly do not use anti-vandalism tools to revert the edits of long-standing contributors, it is considered rude. Guy (Help!) 18:12, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
