Found a hitch

Turns out someone had a Schweizerhaus (Vienna Project restaurant)in the en.Wiki as "Schweizerhaus, Vienna" but it only has a couple of paragraphs, as opposed to the one page I got off de.Wiki. I feel some trepidation about plunging into what's there, and then I have the problem of getting the extra jpg's over also. Be bold? A bit annoying is that the Vienna Project suggested (at least to me)that the entry shoulda been "Schweizerhaus" as it is in the de. (tildes in front or behind?) For the record most people put their additions at the bottom of the talk page rather than the top, but I don't really mind. Don't let the existance of an article in that spot deter you from doing the transaltion, especially if you think that you can do a better job at it, or if it is only a stub. As for the name, a redirect can be created from one name to another, this will cause all searches for various names to end at the same page. Or the article can be move to the new page, however I believe that you must have a minimum time on wikipedia before you can move articles. I would be happy to do it for you. For the time being perhaps you could create your version of the article in User:DFWMike/Scweizerhaus. I am actually in DFW right now, was in europe for most of my wiki history though. On the german encyclopedia you will find edit links (seite bearbeiten). Just click this link of the page you wish to translate and you will see the wikicode in the edit window. Select the text in the entire window and copy it using your computers text copy command. To create a new article on english wikipedia enter then name (in english) on the search box. If the article does not already exist you will be given an option to create it. Copy the text in here and begin translating. Or you can translate it offline and just past the new english into the article. You should probably familiarize yourself with wikicode some more before you begin a big project. Click edit on a few pages and see how the look in wikicode. Canons in general

Can anyone comment on the talk:Canon (priest). I believe we should probably delete the redirects and move the info from the base topics into the MUCH referenced individual topics (now 2 stubs and 1 redirect). There is enough info for large articles on each, particularly listing of orders.

Islamicisation/ization

This term has been used for a number of years, and frequently turns up in articles, debates and media in some parts of the world, esp. Europe and Australia. --MacRusgail 15:18, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

• I don't care who made the word up originally or if it is a media neologism or someone else's. There is a better way to say it. 'Spread of Islam' has 1 less syllable and is easier to pronounce and understand. Even Islamification, which is pronouncable. -icisation is just pretentious.

Try pronouncing it with all of the letters. Do it now out loud. The media may write Islamicisation, but I doubt the say it. Or at least shorten it to Islami-zation (which technically doesn't even mean the same thing). Its still a Pseudo-latin derivative combination of islam and the -ic, ize(greek), -ate and -ion suffixes. Mmmm suffix stack. Slightly better then Islamosythesis but not something that someone will bring up chatting around the watercooler. Like "Bennifer", "New Paradigms", "Flipfloppers" and "Proactive", have you ever actually used these words, outside of the context of making fun of them? sure the media uses them a lot it doesn't make them real English, come back in 50 years.

I can pronounce "Islamicisation" fine. That's a non-argument, unless you have a lisp maybe. No more difficult than "Islamification". Nothing "pretentious" about it. Again, a non-argument. "Television" is also a "bad" pseudo-Latin derivative. It's still used. You probably use it too, without bothering to check that up.

I suspect you haven't spent a lot of time in Europe. I may be wrong, but it is a term in common use here. And not just in the media. Funny thing is that "proactive" is used too. I don't know about the other three - but that doesn't mean they aren't used somewhere or other. "Flip-flops" are a kind of sandals where I come from. But perhaps you haven't travelled round much, or you would have come across these terms elsewhere. --MacRusgail 19:24, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

I live in europe, I have never heard Islamicisation or seen it in print, I am taking your word for it that it even exists in that form. And believe me I have been listening for it since I first read that AFD. 550 google hits total hardly puts this in the same category as the word Television. Heh, that doesn't even put it in the range of randomly smashed keys; "zxcvnm" 14,000 hits. Well I've seen and heard it plenty of times. For what it's worth all of these words are in fairly common use too (whether you use the "s" or "z" spelling is another argument, I use the "s") - industrialisation, commercialisation, Anglicisation. I have yet to discover how someone with expertise on a subject can correct misinformation, even radical misinformation, on a wikipedia project entry without the misinformation reappearing, apparently due to someone's ignorance of the subject, or a willful desire to mislead the audience. VandalProof 1.2 Now Available

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. Yes I did add the WIP template at the top of the page. This is the best method to avoid deletion. You are right about the steep learning curve. Although I try to help, I often see new users give up in frustration when their work is deleted or edited, for some reason they do not understand. Things like the WIP template take some time to learn about. In the future if you want to check out who changed an article you can click the history link at the top.

Because of the huge volume of edits on wikipedia which are nonsense or vandalism, an administrator may only have a few seconds to determine if your page is vandalism or a real page, before moving on to the next one.

My german is not good enough for a translation accuracy check. I will ask one of the native german editors to look at it. But I will check the formatting when I get a chance, perhaps today. After this you could simply cut and paste the article to the new location, it does not need moving at this point because there is really no history to preserve and an article already exists at the target location. This is not really the stuff for the AfD page itself, so I'm putting it here instead, but I can assure you that "AN Other" (usually written, in the common British English way, with no punctuation or spaces between the initials) is a very common "placeholder" for sporting squads - eg "Squad additions (3): JN Smith, WT Taylor and AN Other". That sort of thing. I don't know how old the usage is, but it's certainly no neologism: I've seen it in newspapers since the 1980s at least, and it might be decades older than that. The article is still available at User:DFWMike/Schweizerhaus, with all changes intact. I suspect the redirect was delete from my move to userspace. When a page is moved what is left behind is called a redirect, it is sort of like a detour which takes you to the new location from the old. Also, (nearly) all deletions are done by humans, so if it was deleted you can complain to the person who deleted it. --Darkfred ^{Talk to me} 17:07, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

US Laws

In the US, one does have the right to kill intruders, and in Texas, other places, this is legal. By the way, some people in the SW US actually believe that the US govt. has willfully betrayed them by allowing illegal aliens and criminals to run loose all over the place, thus they have formed private armies to stop them. One such private army is Ranch Rescue, a militia group called on to ranches, other land holdings to forcibly remove illegal aliens and squatters. There are articles of this nature on the Ranch Rescue website, the American Patrol website as well.
