Disambiguation link notification for May 6[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Milifandom, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Telegraph. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

500 edit requirement for editing Gamergate controversy and Talk:Gamergate controversy[edit]

You sealed a dialogue which outlined the problem in restricting Talk:Gamergate Controversy. There was nothing off-topic about this. I keep it focused on the root problem; Unfair Limits; The very TALK section were communication is most needed is restricted. Editors are favoring one opinion over another and trustees of the "approved" opinion has intently silenced others. I'm not free to relate information nor provide answers - even in a calm intelligent manner. This blatant favoritism incites anger. How are we supposed to have an open dialogue about said limitations when a separate perspective is literally disallowed? --j0eg0d (talk) 10:13, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The reason I hatted that section was that it was basically a debate between you and Jorm over whether or not Gamergate is "actually about ethics in game journalism" or not. I fail to see what any of it had to do with the 500 post limit being right or wrong. Gamergate being good or evil, should in no way effect what sanctions are in place. You started off by discussing the content of the article, and then just got into a snark-off with Jorm. If you want to debate the subtleties of Gamergate with Jorm (and I can't see why you possibly would), I'd suggest you do so offsite. Either that or work hard on improving the encyclopedia for a month and get 500 edits.
I don't really have any opinion on whether the restriction is right or not, but I think you're wrong about this leading to only "approved opinions" being expressed. I think the comment by Liz on Masem's talk sums it up pretty well. There are a lot of people editing the article who all disagree with eachother on everything. The issue is that most newcomers fail to suggest anything actionable on the article talk page, or suggest something that grossly violates WP:BLP policies. In fact it's pretty ironic that as soon as the restriction was put in place, you came along and actually made some constructive points about the new WAM study.Bosstopher (talk) 20:47, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

GoldSmiths Student union.[edit]

I have an idea, what if we put the info about the controversy in a separate article? Weegeerunner (talk) 17:56, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Weegeerunner:That seems like a decent idea but the article may not be kept due to WP:NOTNEWS. But I'm by no means an expert on how deletion policy works in that regard, so your free to give a shot. I definitely wouldn't nominate it for deletion or anything though. Either way this material is very undue in this article, and should not be there. In response to your comment in the edit summary, the reason "why not" is that it makes a third of the article about GSU focused on a single short controversy that has been going on for a fraction of the institutions existence. By keeping it in we're implying to the reader that almost everything you need to know about GSU is the Bahar Mustafa controversy, which is not in keeping with NPOV policies. Please self-revert.Bosstopher (talk) 20:28, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have the time to make a new article, if it reads like news, let's cut it out. Weegeerunner (talk) 01:53, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

5 pages[edit]

Hi. I worked on 5 topic in my sandbox, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. All of them have a page in Wikifa. What is your opinion? Is it OK if I create them in Wikipedia? Could you help me to improve it? Munifi3nt (talk) 05:53, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking, I have a really busy week coming up, so I wont be able to look at these in detail until Sunday (possibly monday). When I'm more free I'd be willing to do some grammar fixes and stuff on them. From a brief glance they seem ok articles except for the grammar which is a bit shaky. Is farsi your main language? Also for the Feziyeh School article, do you live anywhere near the school? Because if you do it could be a nice idea to take a photo and upload it onto Commons.
You could go ahead and put them into the main encyclopedia if you want, but the bad grammar might make it a bit hard to read. You could also try WP:Articles for Creation, who check articles from new users to make sure they're good enough. Congratulations on getting so many articles written.Bosstopher (talk) 00:11, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thank you very much. I am enthusiastic to put them into the main encyclopaedia. I'll be waiting for you to improve them.
Yes, I am Iranian, how about you?
I told my friend who lives in Qom to take a photo of the school. It was a good suggestion. :) Munifi3nt (talk) 06:52, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Good job on getting the articles into mainspace. Good job on getting a hold of a photo too. If you tag them with template:copyedit, someone else might be able to do get the grammar fixed before I do. Other than grammar fixes I think you know more about the topics than me. I may try and add a bit more about "Hichi" in the Khomeini return article though.
I'm kind of Iranian. I was born and live in England, but both my parents are Iranian, I have an Iranian passport, and I am in Iran for around a month each year. I'm bad at reading farsi though, and read it very slowly. Only things I can read fast are kebab menus and "Baba Ab Dad" sort of stuff.
Best of luck with the article writing! Bosstopher (talk) 09:18, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Kebab menus! Elahiiiii :)
Thank you. By the way, new photo for Feyziyeh School. Munifi3nt (talk) 14:17, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

What I meant in my revert....[edit]

...before I hit "enter" is that there is no need to template the regulars, let alone an admin, and much less a checkuser. Save it for the SPAs and newbies. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 00:44, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@FreeRangeFrog:Thanks for clarifying, but... "A very small number of templates, such as the Arbitration Committee's Alert template, are mandatory and must be "placed unmodified" for an alert to be valid. As a result, these templates are not covered by this essay." It would hardly been fair if I alerted one of the disputants and not the other, even if the other is a checkuser. It's basically setting up a newbie for a ban, while protecting an established user from any possible negative effects of their actions in the topic area. GG sanctions alerts are thrown around like candy anyway, and as the template clearly says it doesnt imply any wrongdoing on the behalf of the warned user. I'm just making sure the alert template serves its intended purpose.Bosstopher (talk) 00:51, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's the admin's responsibility to be aware of any discretionary sanctions around articles they edit. That's the whole point of being an admin. I suppose it's possible that you could find a clueless admin who would probably benefit from a reminder, but that's not the case when you stack checkuser on top of that. Anyway, I'm sure you did it in good faith, so no harm done. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 00:55, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And of course you are free to restore the warning if you wish, and you disagree with the reasons for my revert. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 01:27, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

User:FreeRangeFrog it is a requirement to notice someone about discretionary sanctions. Whether or not that person takes offence to a template is up to them and not anyone else. I am restoring the comment, Bosstopher feel free to revert if you so choose. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 00:53, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Gee, why do all the fun things happen while I'm off-wiki? I have no comment about the procedural niceties, i.e., the DS alert, talk page guidelines, etc., but I confess I never saw the connection between GG and Goldsmiths Students' Union. Certainly my objections to the wall of new material that was originally added to the article had nothing to do with either the racism or gender issues, but just the WP:UNDUE aspect. Anyway, with Bosstopher's assistance, I'm hoping things have simmered down a bit at the article. I had already decided to bow out anyway. Regards to all.--Bbb23 (talk) 02:21, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?[edit]

Given that there is no sourced content what exactly do you propose merging? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 01:07, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not much. Just the fact that TFYC have gotten round to making a Game and that its name is Afterlife empire. The steam greenlight primary source could be used in this scenario,as well as the gamepolitics article which hasnt actually been linked.[1] At the very least it should be kept as a redirect to TFYC instead of being completely deleted.
